Collaborative project / sculpture / social practice
Jan – Mar 2024 (NART art residency, Estonia)
Over the course of two months, a group of teenagers from Narva worked on a book sculpture made from found objects sourced from trash, the streets, or their homes. The central question during the meetings was: Which pieces of trash can serve as artifacts of culture and history to tell the story of Narva?
For the final exhibition at NART, Narva Art Residency, the participants wrote essays to discuss what Narva should get rid of.
Narva is located directly on the border with Russia. The city faces economic challenges. Despite being completely bombed by Soviet occupiers, Soviet and Russian imperial influence is positively embraced there. 98% of the population speaks Russian. Young people find it difficult to take a stance on various societal issues.
