Intervention / witnesses / institutional critique
March 5, 2025, 7 pm – 9 pm, Humboldt Forum, Berlin

Participants: People in Ukraine (Yana Krykun, Serhii Bondar, Maryna Chaika, Bohdan Bunchak, Leyla Davidova) and members of the audience in Germany

This intervention responds to a critical omission in the exhibition space titled “War,” curated by Stadtmuseum Berlin. The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine — an act of colonial violence — is entirely absent from the exhibition, as it is from the Humboldt Forum as a whole.
A single testimony from a Ukrainian refugee from 2014, presented in the exhibition, echoes Russian propaganda and reinforces a distorted narrative.
To confront this omission and distortion, survivors and witnesses of the ongoing war were brought into the museum space in real time via Zoom. Their live testimonies entered directly into the exhibition, initiating unmediated dialogue with the German public.

The basis for this is an ongoing artistic project that centres the individual experiences of people living through the war in Ukraine.

To this day, the exhibition remains unchanged.
